Job Description

Innovative Discovery (“ID”) is seeking a self-driven, team-oriented Network/Systems Engineer, that will work with the rest of the IT team to improve, automate, and streamline our internal and datacenter operations while accounting for confidentiality, availability, and integrity. The primary focus will be all switching, routing, firewall management, WAPs and WAN links for all datacenters (5) and office locations (2). Help support and maintain business critical applications while meeting our defined SLA for availability. Provision, secure and maintain all networking gear in the environment. Improve network security posture by auditing and adjusting firewall rules to only allow expected traffic.   

The Network/Systems Engineer will help consolidate our datacenter footprint while also helping to rollout our new DR/BCP solution based on VMWare NSX. Primary networking duties will not always consume all your time, therefore will be expected to assist the Systems Engineers with any IT projects or escalated tickets that are more Systems (OS/Storage) specific.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all network switches, routers, firewalls, WAPs are provisioned, secured, maintained and disposed of in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Monitor Ticket system for any escalated tickets
  • Participate in IT On-Call schedule
  • Assist with any on-site data center specific activities
  • Participate individually and as a team on IT Projects
  • Attend and help manage change control board meetings
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on network devices during pre-approved change windows after hours
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members

 

Required & Desired Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • A passion for creating and continually improving IT Solutions in alignment with Business Operations. 
  • Mid to Advanced skills with L2/L3 Switching, WAP and Firewall management 
  • Low to Mid level skills with Powershell scripting / automation 
  • Low to Mid level skills with Virtualization   
  • Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 R2 or newer, Active Directory, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, reverse proxy and load balancing (NetScaler) technology
  • Attention to detail 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication 
  • Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality 
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently 
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment 
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams

 

Education and Experience

  • Dell DCS-IE or Cisco CCNA 
  • Fortigate NSE   
  • Microsoft MCP, MCSE 
  • Experience with Dell Switching 
  • Experience with Fortigate Firewalls 
  • Experience with Cisco WAPs 
  • Experience with VMWare 
  • Experience supporting SAN / NAS / iSCSI. Isilon experience is a plus. 
  • ITIL or COBIT 5 certified
